Oranga Tamariki Sexual Violence Services – Children, Young People and Whānau

Our approach places the safety, wellbeing and voice of the child or young person at the centre of our practice. We work alongside tamariki at a pace appropriate to their age, development, circumstances and individual needs, while recognising the importance of safe and supportive whānau relationships.

Our services include:

Oranga Tamariki Whānau Support and Counselling Services

Our service recognises that whānau relationships can be impacted by a range of complex circumstances and experiences.

We prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children while supporting connection, positive relationships and meaningful engagement with parents and whānau.

Our services include:

• Individual and whānau counselling and support

• Support to restore and strengthen relationships between children, young people, parents and caregivers

• Support to improve communication, understanding and connection within the whānau

• Wholistic support that considers the wider factors affecting the wellbeing and relationships of the child, young person and whānau

Oranga Tamariki / Family Court / Supervised Contact Service

Our supervisors provide a safe, supportive environment for children and young people to maintain contact and relationships with parents and whānau when supervised contact is required.

The safety, wellbeing and needs of the child or young person are central to the delivery of every supervised contact session. Our approach recognises the importance of whakapapa, identity, connection, and the maintenance of meaningful whānau relationships where it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Our Supervised Contact Service provides:

• Safe and professionally supervised contact

• A child and young person-centred environment

• Support for positive and appropriate interactions between children, parents and whānau

• Clear professional boundaries throughout supervised contact

• Observation and monitoring of contact in accordance with referral or Court requirements

• Support for children and whānau before, during and following contact where appropriate

• Culturally inclusive and responsive practice
